Essex, Maryland Dec 30, 2025 (Issuewire.com) - Scott Borgerson, a long-haul truck driver with more than two decades of experience, is speaking out to raise awareness around the importance of skilled trades, road safety, and the often-overlooked role professional drivers play in keeping communities functioning.
Borgerson has logged more than 2 million accident-free miles hauling goods along the East Coast, including food, medical supplies, and construction materials. He says his advocacy is rooted not in policy debates, but in everyday habits that protect lives and livelihoods.
People dont notice logistics until something goes wrong, Borgerson said. But when drivers take shortcuts, the consequences show up fast. Safety isnt optional. Its the job.
According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, trucking accounts for nearly 1 in 14 jobs in the transportation sector, yet roadway incidents remain a leading cause of workplace fatalities nationwide. Industry data shows that consistent training, proper rest, and adherence to safety protocols significantly reduce accident rates.
Borgerson believes the solution starts with culture.
Confidence doesnt come from rushing, he said. It comes from routines. Checking your load. Slowing down when others speed up. Knowing when to stop.
Beyond the road, Borgerson is active in his local community. He volunteers at food drives, donates his time and equipment to charity transport efforts, and participates annually in Wreaths Across America, hauling wreaths to honour veterans at cemeteries across Maryland. He also mentors younger drivers and speaks with high school students about careers in logistics and skilled trades.
Not everyone needs a university degree to build a solid life, Borgerson said. Trades offer stability, purpose, and pride if people are willing to commit to learning them properly.
As supply chains face increasing pressure from labour shortages and rising demand, experienced drivers like Borgerson say retention and safety depend on respect for the profession.

This work holds the economy together, he said. But it only works when people take responsibility for how they show up.
Scott Borgerson encourages individuals to support safer roads and stronger trades by respecting professional drivers, practising patience on the road, learning about skilled career paths, and committing to discipline and preparation in their own work. Progress, he says, starts with everyday decisions made carefully and consistently.
